Founded in 2015 by Jay Muthukamatchi in his basement, Charity Crossing has blossomed into a leading volunteer-run nonprofit organization, transforming lives and communities across Delaware and beyond. Our first donations consisted of five bags of gently used clothes, and since then, we have evolved to make a significant impact on Delawareans every day. One of our volunteers helps someone every day.
A Decade of Impact on Delawareans:
Empowering Lives:
- Over 850 volunteers have positively impacted the lives of more than 62,000 individuals and their pets annually.
- A total of 127,101 volunteer hours have been dedicated, translating to an estimated $3 million in economic value, with 45,756 hours contributed by youth volunteers aged 5 to 18.
Fostering Community:
- We organize over 3,000 community events annually across four states (DE, MD, NJ, PA).
- Goods worth $6.115 million have been repurposed and distributed to over 242,000 community members, with the majority of beneficiaries being Delawareans.
Saving Lives:
- We have saved over 618 lives through blood donation drives.
- We distributed 156 backpack beds to individuals experiencing homelessness in Delaware.
Cultivating Compassion:
Charity Crossing fosters a sense of peace, pride, and purpose within its volunteers. By making a tangible difference in the lives of others, volunteers deepen their connection to the community, cultivating self-awareness, self-esteem, empathy, generosity, and gratitude.
Inspiring Future Generations:
Charity Crossing plays a vital role in nurturing the next generation of leaders. By engaging youth as young as five, we instill a deep understanding of humanity, helpfulness, and generosity, preparing them to become compassionate and engaged citizens.
An elite group of volunteers making a huge difference in our community
The conservative estimate of the economic benefit Charity Crossing has provided to the community to date is roughly $9.115 million ($6.115 million + $3 million). We have received $112,696 in government grants to date, which is 1.2%. The monetary donations we have received from all sources amount to $456,848, which is 5%. For every $1 in cash donation we receive, we give back $16 worth of donations to the community, and we believe that few can match our impact.

Awards: 2 President’s Volunteer Lifetime Award, 446 President’s Volunteer Service Awards, 19 Delaware Governor’s Outstanding Volunteer Service Awards, and Delaware Governor‘s Outstanding Volunteer Organization Award. Also, we featured on ABC.
Need of the Hour:
We have come this far with very little support from the government. Our operating expenses are roughly $85,000 a year, and we currently have funds for the next six months. We need government support to continue our operations. Without additional financial assistance, we may have to reduce or close our services to the community, which would be a significant blow to those who are already suffering.
Crossing has a long and impactful history of serving underserved communities through programs such as community giveaways, school supply drives, and sock drives. We have a deep understanding of the unique challenges faced by these individuals and possess a proven track record of delivering effective and impactful programs that help families save valuable income and overcome life challenges. For your reference, we have attached our Impact Report.
Our ultimate goal is to find a viable way to help Delawareans to learn new skills. Giving skills to Delawarean’s project proposal: We have offshore training centers that may provide cutting-edge technology training to Delawareans. This will improve their skills and employability and, as a result, increase income. For example, Salesforce training costs as little as $1,000. If this is of interest to you, we can provide a project proposal. If we can pull this off, Delaware will be a shining star.
I am writing to request a meeting to discuss an urgent funding need for Charity Crossing to continue effectively assisting low-income families and individuals in Delaware. In addition, we will be able to expand our service deep into Kent and Sussex counties. Supporting us will have very little to no impact on your budget but it will have significant positive impact your constituents.
We believe that a partnership with your office can significantly enhance our ability to address the critical needs of low-income Delawareans. I am available to meet at your convenience to discuss this further and explore ways to secure support for our operations.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
